Maurice Named 2019 AO Athlete of the Year


2019 has been an outstanding year for 310 Running’s Aysia Maurice.
 
Thanks to her dominance across a myriad of mid-distance events, Maurice was named an ‘All-Ontarian’ & selected as the U16 Female Athlete of the Year by Athletics Ontario at their awards gala in October.
 
Aysia’s indoor season began with a bronze medal in the Freshman mile at the New Balance National Indoor Championships in New York. After that, she won three gold medals at the Athletics Ontario Indoor Championships, while helping to break a 30 year old provincial record in the sprint medley relay.
 
Outdoors, Maurice earned a gold & silver medal at OFSAA, two golds at Legion Provincials & a spot on Team Ontario, three golds at Athletics Ontario Outdoor Championships & a gold & silver at Legion Nationals. Along the way, she set three new Provincial records.
 

In the U18 women’s age group, 15 year old Maurice finished the year ranked first in Canada in the 1500 steeplechase & second in the 2000 & indoor mile.
 
Provincially, Aysia landed first in Ontario in the U16 women’s 1500 steeplechase, mile, 2000, 3000, indoor 800, 1500, mile & second in the 800, 1200, 1500 & indoor 1200.
