Mite Girls Win MTA XC Championship

310 Running sent 15 junior athletes to compete in the MTA Provincial XC Championships in London on a very wet & cold October 27th.
 
The mighty Mite Girls team of Aysia Maurice, Paige Barber & Makena Lee started the day off right by winning the team gold & becoming the 2012 Provincial Team Champions. Individually the girls placed 4th, 8th & 16th.
 
First year Mite Boy, Alex Morris cracked the top 10 with a strong 9th place result.
 
The Tyke Girls team of Charlotte Barber, Alexys Maurice & Kiana Hudson just missed the team bronze landing 4th overall just 4 points off the podium.
 
Ethan Biase & Charlie Butler put together strong efforts in the Tyke Boys division finishing just one minute off the winning pace.
 
The Senior Girls team of Ali Jordan, Laura Lopachyk & Meaghan Hymers earned an 8th overall in the team competition.
 
Senior Boys Dawson Rowntree, Callum MacGregor & Jarod Morgenroth-Rebin finished 5th.
 

Fall Five Another Huge Success

Thanks to the hard work of some very dedicated volunteers & a fantastic group of athletes, 310 Running’s 3rd annual Fall Five, held on Saturday October 6 at Albion Hills, was a huge success.

In the 2.5K race, Dilan Brar set a new course record for the boys with an 8:44 clocking. Meanwhile, on the girl’s side, Georgia Waller just edged out Jenni Dwyer by 5/100ths of a second in an incredible sprint finish for the top female clocking. Both girls came in at 9:45.
 
The 5K race saw Esteban Clavijo set a new men’s course record with a time of 16:57. On the women’s side, Kelsey Horner defended her title by winning for the second year in a row with a 20:18 effort.

310 Running Tykes Take Team Title

310 Running’s junior athletes began their 2012 cross country season in style in Pickering on Saturday, Sept 22.
 
The mighty Mites, Paige Barber & Alex Morris, started the day off with an individual bronze & silver respectively.
 
The Tyke girls team of Charlotte Barber, Lexy Maurice & Kiana Hudson kept the good times rolling by winning 310 Running’s first team title of the year on the strength of Charlotte’s silver medal effort.
 
The Senior boys team of Dawson Rowntree, Callum MacGregor & Jarod Morgenroth-Rebin delivered the club’s second team award of the day finishing second. Dawson led the boys with an individual bronze medal result.
 
Tyke boys Ethan Biase & Charlie Butler and Atom girls Lindsay Appleton & Anchita Suri missed the podium but had great results nevertheless.
 

Skimming Scores Big at Nationals

Heading into the Legion Youth Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI on Aug 17-19, the stretch goal for Nicole Skimming was to medal in 3 of the 4 events she was competing in.
 
By the end of the meet, Nicole had won a gold medal in the 80 metre hurdles, a bronze in the 200 metre hurdles, a bronze in the 300 meter dash and was just 9/100s out of the bronze medal spot placing 4th in the 200 metre dash.
 
Mission accomplished!
 
With just one athlete competing, 310 Running finished 7th in the Midget girls team competition with 27 points. We were only outdone by the Provincial teams of BC, Ontario, Quebec & New Brunswick & 2 of the largest clubs from Ontario all of which had multiple athletes competing & scoring points for their teams.
 

Hill Takes Hershey…Part 2

310 Running’s Christian Hill has had a very impressive 2012 track season.
 
On August 4, Hill put the cherry on top of his season by winning his second consecutive gold medal at the Hershey North American Championships in his favourite race, the 400.
 
The Hershey North American Championships are the culmination of a series of track meets held across Canada & the US. Based on their results in qualifying meets, top athletes from all over North America are selected to compete.
 
Christian was selected by the Hershey Company to represent Ontario after smashing the Hershey Ontario 200m & 400m records at the Provincial meet and outperforming athletes from Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
 
Hill started the prestigious Pennsylvania meet with the second fastest seed time but showed right from the gun that he was the man to beat. When the dust cleared he crossed the line first at a very fast 56.50 seconds.
 

Sisters Compete at Junior Nationals

310 Running’s Jamie & Nicole Skimming competed in the Athletics Canada Junior National Championships held on July 27-29 in Winnipeg.
 
In order to participate, athletes must achieve a qualifying standard established by Athletics Canada in a sanctioned meet leading up to Nationals. Both girls easily met the standard for their respective events.
 
Jamie, a first year Junior, faced a very talented field of competitors in the triple jump. She jumped 11.12m which landed her 12th in Canada in her age group.
 
Nicole competed two age groups up in the 400 metre hurdles. She finished 8th in the prelims with a new PB of 1:04.13 & earned a spot in the finals. Nicole maintained her position in the finals ending up 8th overall in Canada as a Junior.
 

310 Running Hot at MTA Championships

On Saturday July 21, thirteen athletes represented 310 Running at the MTA Provincial Outdoor Championships in Burlington.
 
The 310 athletes, ranging in age from 6 to 14 proved to be a talented & versatile group competing in a myriad of events against the best U14 athletes in Ontario.
 
Leading the team was double gold medalist Christian Hill who easily won both the 200m & 400m sprints in the Atom boys division.
 
Other double medalists included Charlotte Barber & Karson Proulx.
 
Charlotte took gold in the Tyke girls 800m & bronze in the 400m & narrowly missed a third visit to the podium with a 4th place finish in the long jump.
 
Karson landed his gold in the Atom boys discus & followed that up with a silver in the triple jump.
 
Alex Morris & Dylan Proulx also took home hardware with Alex earning a silver in the Mite boys 400m race & Dylan taking home a silver in Senior boys discus.

310 Running Athletes Head to Legion Provincials

Following a very successful qualifier meet in Midland on June 16, two athletes from 310 Running have been named to the District E team & will compete at the Legion Provincial Championship Meet on July 6-7 in Oshawa.
 
12 year old Christian Hill will be the youngest athlete on the team competing in the U16 boys 100m & 300m sprints.
 
Nicole Skimming also stamped her ticket to Oshawa & will compete in the U16 girls 80m & 200m hurdles as well as the 300m sprint.
 
Thrower Dylan Proulx was named as a first alternate to the team for the U16 boys discus & javelin.
 

310 Running at OFSAA

From June 7-9, two of 310 Running’s top performing athletes represented their respective high schools at the OFSAA provincial high school championships in Brockville
 
The Skimming sisters, Jamie competing for Humberview & Nicole competing for Bill Crothers, participated in a total of 7 events over the 3 day meet that attracts all of the top high school athletes from across Ontario.
 
In her final OFSAA, Jamie competed in the Senior girls triple & long jump. In triple, she finished 9th with a season best jump of 11.20 meters, cracking the top 10 for the first time in her OFSAA career.
 
In her first OFSAA, Nicole competed in the Midget girls 80 & 300 meter hurdles, 400 meter dash, Senior girls 4×100 meter relay & Open girls 4×400 meter relay. She came up big with a silver medal finish in the 300 meter hurdles & bronze medal efforts in the 80 meter hurdles & 400 meter dash.
 

310 Running Athletes Go Varsity

In 2012, 310 Running will graduate two athletes and send them off to university.
 
Triple jumper Jamie Skimming will pursue a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at the University of Toronto while competing for 3 time Olympic coach Carl Georgevski and the U of T Varsity Blues.
 
Cross country runner Shelby Deibert has chosen to head to Laurentian University to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and compete for Voyageur head coach Dick Moss.
 
Jamie and Shelby follow in the footsteps of Nicole Green, another 310 Running alumni, who has competed on the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks cross country team for the past two years.
 

Jumping onto the Varsity Stage

Jamie Skimming added another medal to her 2012 indoor tally by taking the silver in the open women’s triple jump at the Hal Brown Meet at the University of Toronto on February 17th.
 
Skimming jumped a season best 11.05m against her varsity competition and was only outdone by University of Guelph jumper Julia Mirotta.
 

Appleton & Hill Own the Podium

On Saturday February 11th, 310 Running sent athletes to York University for the Bramalea Bullets MTA Meet & to the University of Western Ontario for the London Western All Comers Meet.
 
At York, Christian Hill led the way with golds in the Atom boys 200m, 400m & 800m races. In his strongest event, the 400m race, Christian ran a blazingly fast 58.32 beating the all time Atom boys MTA indoor record by over a half second.
 
Newcomer Lindsay Appleton had a brilliant MTA track debut by winning gold in the Atom girls 400m & then went on to take the bronze in the 200m race.
 
Jarod Morgenroth-Rebin & Dawson Rowntre both set PBs in the Senior boys 1500m. Dawson then went on to set another best in the 800m event.
 
Jamie Skimming won silver in the open women’s triple jump in London.
 

Hill Takes Silver at Legion Indoor Championships

Christian Hill had a fast start to his 2012 season (literally).
 
Competing in the U15 division of the Legion Indoor Provincial Championships, 12 year old Hill finished with a silver medal in the boys 300m race with a time of 41.40 seconds. Christian missed out on the gold by a mere 1/100 of a second.
 
Earlier in the day, Hill put down a very fast 800m time of 2:24.87.
 
Other U15 athletes included Meaghan Hymers, Lindsay Appleton & Nicole Skimming. Devin Hymers was the lone U17 athlete competing from 310 Running.
 
Meaghan set new personal bests in the 800m & 1200m while Lindsay locked in a new best in the 300m. Nicole missed out on the PB party but did finish fourth in both the 300m & the long jump.
 
Devin started his year with a very aggressive effort in the 1500m.
 

Athlete of Excellence Award

310 Running’s Nicole Skimming, along with 20 of Ontario’s finest young track & field athletes, were honoured on January 21st by the Minor Track Association for their outstanding athletic achievements in 2011. The awards were presented by Canadian Olympic jumper Tabia Charles.
 
Other award winners included Jermeka Castello, Alyssa Marsh, Zaria Armstrong, Jaydn Skeen, Mariam Abdul-Rashid, Kelsey Horner, Emily Carmichael, Chardae Henry, Ebhani Blackwood, Shyla Cardy, Savannah Laroach, Joey Daniels, Lee Nicholson, Ashton Colaire, Ben Freemantle, Nicholas Barnes, Joseph Murdock, Pirathapan Nagendrarajah, Jacob Turk & Caleb Thomas.
 

Skimming Wins at U of T Meet

310 Running started it’s indoor competitive season at the Fred Foot Meet at the University of Toronto Field House on January 20-21.
 
Jamie Skimming posted a win in her first competition of the 2012 season by jumping 11.02m in the open women’s triple jump. Jamie, a U of T track & field recruit, managed to out jump all varsity athletes.
 
Dawson Rowntree set a PB in the Bantam/Midget boys 1200m race on his way to the podium with a third place finish.
 
New athlete Jamie Tarling achieved a PB in the Junior/Senior boys 1500m race while Nicole Skimming logged a solid result in the open women’s 300m race.
